Winfred (affectionately called Wint by family and friends) Owen Pope, 90, of Monroe, North Carolina went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2013. He was born June 16, 1922 in Marshville, North Carolina, the son of the late Arris Calvin Pope, Sr. and Catherine Thomas Pope. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Callie Mae Mangum Pope; son, Donald Owen Pope; great-grandson William Lewis Pope; brothers, Claude Pope, Ed Pope, Paul Pope, Grant Pope, Clinton Pope, A.C. Pope, Jr. (Junie); sisters, Ollie Pope Griffin, and Mary Pope Fedor. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the United States Navy. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pageland, S.C., where he had served as elder and treasurer for many years. He retired as Superintendent of Chesterfield Yarn Mills Pageland, South Carolina after 50+ years of service. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. A service to celebrate Wint’s life will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Baumgartner Funeral Home Chapel, 708 W. McGregor Street, Pageland, S.C. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M., with the funeral following at 2:30 P.M. Survivors include his son, Billy Lewis and wife Ruth of Monroe, North Carolina; his daughter Patricia Pope Isley and husband Billy Martin of Burlington, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Patricia Pope of Fort Mill, South Carolina; grandchildren, Brian Owen Pope and wife, Angela, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, David Lewis Pope and wife, Jeannie, of Morganton, North Carolina; Mark William Pope and wife, Cynthia, of Durham, North Carolina, Phillip Martin Isley and wife, Kelly, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; Mindy Martin Isley of Ft. Worth, Texas; great-grandchildren, Owen Lee Pope and Donald Smith Pope of Fort Mill, South Carolina; James William Pope and Calvin David Pope of Durham, North Carolina, Lillian Anne Pope of Morganton, North Carolina, sister and brother-in-law Virgie and Vann Hilton of Marshville, North Carolina, and many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church of Pageland, P.O. Box 36, Pageland, South Carolina 29728 in memory of Winfred Pope.
