Barbara Jean Knight
Cheek
Jun 16, 1949 — Jan 17, 2024
Barbara Jean Cheek
Barbara, or Bobbie, as most everyone knew her was the daughter of Heath and Dorothy Knight of Waxhaw, N.C.
She was proceeded in death by both parents as well as her brothers, Ronnie Knight and Gary Knight, sister, Joan Coley and her daughter, Selena Cheek of Pageland, S.C. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Fox (Mark) of Monroe, N.C. and son, Wesley Cheek (Annette) of Jefferson, S.C., sister, Sue Crocker of Lancaster S.C., sister, Lynda Torres of Waxhaw N.C., her lifetime friend, Mike Deese of Stanfield, N.C., and her best friends Linda McBride and Arvie Courtney, as well as five beautiful granddaughters that she was so very proud of and loved so much; Hillary (Fox) Carpio Reyes (Jose), Savannah Fox, Taylor Knorr, Katie Thompson, Abigail Cheek, and one great-grandson Greyson Arant.
Bobbie was born June 16, 1949 and attended Sun Valley High School. She was married to the love of her life, Gwyn "Bumper" Cheek, when she was only 17. She survived him the year of their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Bobbie loved her church and her church family at Zoar United Methodist where she enjoyed singing the old church hymns and gathering for church lunches. Her faith was strong and she loved the Lord Jesus.
She loved spending time with her family and was always asking about when the next reunion was going to happen to get everyone together. Bobbie loved traveling with her sweetheart Bumper and he would take her all over the place from the S.C. beaches to the N.C. mountains. She loved fishing off the bank, in the surf, or on the pier and the best part is she could bait and take her own fish off the hook.
She loved sewing and quilting. Her quilt collection would just amaze her and she appreciated the stich work details and time that was put into each quilt she found. Sewing was her passion for the longest time and if you needed to know how to work the needle she could explain it to you or she had a "how to" book about it. Reading and collecting books was another favorite pastime of Bobbie's. Her book collection is something to admire, from cooking to quilting, to Holocaust and Civil War history, her books were so special to her. She enjoyed thrifting and finding new treasures. There wasn't a book or a sewing machine she could ever turn down. Her sewing machine collection reached upwards of 40 machines of all types, shapes, and styles.
Bobbie loved gardening and she had the biggest green thumb of anyone around. Years ago her husband built her a huge beautiful greenhouse and her enthusiasm for plants flourished. She and Bumper would grow and tend to their big gardens year after year. They would grow and share the crop from their labor of love with friends and family. She loved finishing out the day sitting on the porch to just enjoy the sounds of the outdoors, even into the night just listening to nature.
The wonderful memories of her beautiful life will be forever cherished by all those who knew her. She was loved dearly and will be missed greatly by so many.
