Mrs. Barbara Griggs Smith, 86, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at her home while surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born on October 17, 1931 in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Dr. D.C. Griggs and Gladys West Griggs. She graduated from UNC Greensboro College. Barbara retired as a social worker from Chesterfield County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Pageland. In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Blakeney and Gail Collins. Those left to celebrate and remember her life include her loving sons, Mike Smith (Elaine) of Greensville, South Carolina and Monty Smith (Tammy) of Pageland, South Carolina; daughter, Marilyn Vaughn (Evan) of Monroe, North Carolina; sisters, Carolyn Agerton (Tommy) of Pageland, South Carolina and Phyllis Johns (Lovia) of Pageland, South Carolina; Grandchildren, Austin Smith, Clay Smith, Ashley Glover and Steven Lawson Smith; one great grandson, Benjamin Griggs Smith; also many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Pageland with Dr. Joel Dale and Pastor Don Rhyne officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Chesterfield County, PO Box 293, Chesterfield, South Carolina 29709.
