Betty Ruth
Cato
Oct 3, 1940 — Dec 24, 2024
Betty Ruth Cato, 84, of Pageland, SC passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 surrounded by the warmth of her family in Cheraw, South Carolina. She was born on October 3, 1940 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Kenneth Blake Tadlock and Bessie Reid Moser. She is also predeceased by her sister, Elsie Jordan; daughter-in-law, Pamela Fisher Cato; son-in-law, Terry Lowery; brother-in-law, Johnny Jordan, grandson, Joshua Cato and great grandson, Boone Cato.
Betty's journey through life was shared with her beloved husband of 70 years, Jimmy "Pete" Cato of Pageland, SC. Together, they built a legacy of love and commitment that stood as an example to all who knew them. Betty was a devoted mother to her children, Jimmy Cato, Jr. (Libby) of Simpsonville, SC, Ronald Cato of Kannapolis, NC, Jeff Cato (Dorothy) of Indian Trail, NC, and Denise Cato Lowery of Pageland, SC. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Matthew Cato, Stephen Cato (Lauren), Allison Collom (Kyle), Andrew Brett Cato (Bae), Brandon Cato, T.C. Lowery, Jr. (Carley), and Taylor Lowery Melton (Andarius), and reveled in the joy of her great-grandchildren, Elena Cato, Ellison Cato, Grace Cato, Lillie Collom, Ivy Collom, Kira Cato, Miya Cato, Noah Cumbus, Jaxon Melton, Jazlyn Melton, and Tripp Lowery III.
Betty's interests were a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She found solace in the rhythms of cooking, canning, and freezing vegetables, a practice that not only fed her family but also nourished their souls. Her gardens were a vibrant tapestry of life that mirrored the care she took in tending to her loved ones. Betty's younger days were filled with the hum of her sewing machine, creating and mending with a skillful hand and a loving heart.
A woman of unwavering faith, Betty was a pillar in her church community, sharing her light and love with all those around her. She was a fighter with a strong will, qualities that she carried with grace throughout her life. Betty's love for her church family was matched only by her love for her own family, with whom she cherished spending time, engaging in long, heartfelt conversations that will be dearly missed.
Betty's love for the beach was a reflection of her appreciation for life's simple pleasures. She could often be found sitting on her swing outside, basking in the beauty of nature and the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The memories created in these moments of togetherness will be treasured by her family forever.
