Dec 12, 1942 — Dec 16, 2023
Donald Haywood Rowell, 81, of Pageland, SC, affectionately known as Don to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023. He was born on December 12, 1942 in Pageland, South Carolina to the late Dexter Andrew Rowell, Sr. and Ione Lewis Rowell. Don was a man whose generosity, thoughtfulness, and handy skills left a lasting imprint on the hearts of those who knew him. He was predeceased by his brother, Dexter Rowell, Jr.; first wife, Darnell Bowling Rowell and son Donald Eugene Rowell.
Don spent his final moments in Monroe, North Carolina surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Houston Rowell of Pageland, SC; his daughter, Dana Rowell Berry (Tony) of Isle of Palms, SC; his brother, Danny Rowell of Yulee, FL; his sister, Linda Cheryl Rowell of Indian Land, SC; and his cherished grandchildren, Tinsley Berry, Mary Addison Berry, and Ross Berry. Each family member was a source of immense pride and joy for Don, and he often expressed amazement at their accomplishments.
A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pageland, Don's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He cherished his church family and found great solace and community within its walls. His commitment to his faith was evident in the way he lived his life, always striving to embody the values he held dear.
Don's talents as a gifted mechanic and handyman were well-known in his community. He had a passion for restoring cars, a hobby that he shared with his brother, Andrew. Together they frequented car shows. Don's knack for fixing things extended beyond cars; he was the go-to person for family and friends whenever something needed repair.
Providing for his family was Don's top priority, and he worked tirelessly to ensure their well-being and happiness. He took great pride in his home in Pageland, a place he loved deeply. His yard was a testament to his dedication and love for his home, always meticulously maintained and a welcoming space for family gatherings.
Fishing was another of Don's favorite pastimes, offering him moments of tranquility and a chance to connect with nature. His big personality was as expansive as the outdoors he enjoyed, and his laughter and stories were as abundant as the fish at the beach he frequented.
Don's love for animals was yet another facet of his caring nature. He provided a loving home for many pets throughout his life, each of them cherished and adored.
Above all, Don will be remembered for the love he had for his grandchildren. He was an entertainer at heart, always finding ways to make them laugh and creating memories that they will treasure forever.
