Dwight Edwin
Courtney
Mar 28, 1931 — May 26, 2025
Dwight Edwin Courtney, Sr., 94, of Pageland, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pageland on March 28, 1931, Dwight was the beloved son of the late G.W. and Ethel Courtney. Dwight was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Arline Maner Courtney; his son Dwight Edwin Courtney, Jr. (Eddie), his son-in-law, Alvin Moore Usher, Jr. (Al); and daughter-in-law, Carol Courtney; his sister, Georgia Mae Davis, and his brother, Pete Courtney.
Dwight lived a life defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family. He studied bookkeeping and typewriting at King's Business College and later earned an Associate's in Arts in business studies at Wingate College. A proud veteran, Dwight served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon returning from service, Dwight began working as a claims adjustor for Retail Credit Company, which is now known as Equifax. His meticulous nature and dedication to his work were hallmarks of his career, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. A man of steady character and quiet strength, Dwight found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer, a devoted coin collector, and loved spending time fishing. But above all, his heart belonged to his family.
Dwight is survived by his devoted daughter, Robbin Courtney Usher, and his sons, Chris Courtney and Tracy Courtney (Sharon) and his sister, Jerolyn Mungo (Ernest). He was a proud grandfather to Courtney Usher Brown, Trent Usher (Jerica), Justin Courtney (Blair), and Josh Courtney (Emily). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Ali Grace Brown, Major Usher, Captain Usher, Hayden Courtney, Gunnar Courtney, Grant Courtney, Camryn Courtney, Baze Usher, and Tuck Courtney.
To say Dwight was kind, wise, and loving only begins to scratch the surface of the man he was. His kindness was seen in his daily interactions, always ready with a warm smile or a helping hand. His wisdom was shared generously, offering guidance and advice to those lucky enough to know him. His loving nature enveloped his family, friends, and all who came into his orbit, creating a sense of belonging and warmth.
Dwight's departure leaves a void in the fabric of the Pageland community and the hearts of those who loved him. Yet, we take solace in the memories we hold dear, the stories we will continue to share, and the impact he made on each of our lives. Mr. Dwight Edwin Courtney, Sr.'s journey on earth may have concluded, but his spirit endures, guiding us with the same kindness, wisdom, and love that he embodied throughout his remarkable life
