Mr. George Randel Caldwell, 73, of Pageland, SC passed away on June 17, 2020 in Lancaster, SC while surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. George Randel Caldwell was born on September 6, 1946 in Hartsville, SC to the late Aaron C. Caldwell and Susie Johnson Caldwell. Randel is preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Caldwell. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pageland, where he was a Deacon, Youth Leader, and RA Leader. Randel started in the education field leading up to Principal of Central High School in Pageland. After working in the education field, he decided to move to the textile industry, where he worked at Caro Knit in Jefferson and retired as a school teacher in Marlboro county. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather that loved the Lord. Randel enjoyed spending time with the family, especially cooking for them and making them smile. He was an avid sports fan of all sports, especially football and baseball. Randel loved any team that his brother, Robbie coached. He will be remembered for his love and service to his community. During Christmas, Randel loved to play Santa and loved to cook for church functions with his sisters, Brenda and Jenell. In college, he was a part of the "muscle man" group and was a trainer for all teams at Presbyterian College, where he played football for the legendary coach, Cally Gault. Randel was a graduate of USC, and an undergraduate at Presbyterian College, where he played baseball.
He was a member of many civic organizations in town where he helped raise money anonymously. Randel was a 50+ year member and Past Master of the Mt. Moriah Lodge #58 Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. Because of his service to our country, he was a member of the American Legion Smith-Graves Post 92.
Randel served as a Second Lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles Division. During his service to our country in Vietnam, he earned the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon w/ Device (1960).
Randel is survived by his daughter, Erin Caldwell of Pageland, SC; son, Adam Caldwell (Lara) of Gray Court, SC; sisters, Brenda Caldwell Walker and Jenell Caldwell both of Pageland, SC; brother, Robbie Caldwell (Nora) of Seneca, SC; grandchildren, Emma Caldwell, Dana Caldwell, Jordan Caldwell, and Jacob Caldwell; special nieces, Beverly Kirkley (Daniel) and Emsley Caldwell, and numerous nieces and nephews of the Caldwell and Jordan families.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 28, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Pageland Cemetery with Dr. Joel Dale officiating.
Anyone can come by Baumgartner Funeral Home on Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM to sign the register book and pay their respects
