Obituary

Helen Hendrix Arant, 96, completed a long and blessed life on Thursday, November 29, 2012, for the eternal joy promised those who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Helen was the youngest, longest lived and last surviving of the nine children born to Henry and Lola Dillard Hendrix in Greer, SC. Helen graduated from Greer High School with a certificate of proficiency in bookkeeping, a skill she used in her first job at Liberty Life Insurance Company, at First Baptist Church in Greer and Arant Motor Company in Pageland. She played basketball in high school and later in the semi-pro Textile League. Helen was the first woman to serve on a federal grand jury in South Carolina. Helen was involved in Christian service her entire adult life having served as church secretary, in youth activities, and as the first and a long-time teacher of the Winsome Class at First Baptist Church in Pageland where she was a member for 66 years. Helen was married to Billy S. Arant for 45 years until his death in 1983. Her two children survive: Dr. Billy S. Arant, Jr (Margaret) of Chattanooga, TN and Anna Seastrunk (Richard) of Summerville, SC. She is survived also by 4 grandchildren: Dr. Meghan Thompson (Jason), Peter J. Arant (Alicia), Will Seastrunk and David Seastrunk as well as 2 great-grandchildren: Caleb Thompson and Rosie Arant. A celebration of her life conducted by Dr. Joel Dale will be held at First Baptist Church in Pageland at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 2, 2012 with burial to follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall. The family would like to acknowledge the thoughtful and loving care provided Helen during her care at Jesse Helms Nursing Center.
