Mrs. Henretta Threatt Mills, 75, of Pageland, SC passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at her home. Mrs. Mills was born on January 9, 1948 in Albemarle, NC to the late George Franklin Threatt and Ollie Autry Threatt. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 33 years, Archie Marlin Mills, Sr. and three children, Darron Scott Mills, Yana Mills Plyler and Kevin Burke Mills. Having been raised on a farm in Marshville, NC, she learned the value of hard work and contributed to her family's livelihood by milking their cows before school and picking cotton afterwards. As a teenager, she met her love cruising the town of Pageland with her cousin. Her sister, Marlyn, recalls Henre and Marlin dating and said Henre would stand outside when Marlin's squeaky-clean car could be heard coming around the curve. Henre's love of paper dolls as a young girl prefaced her self-taught sewing abilities. She shared her talent as a seamstress with her community as she created costumes for performances at Central High School including The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music. Her family also benefited from her skill as she made most of her children's summer clothes. Her daughter sought her wisdom during her home economics class, and in her later years, Henre's granddaughters, who knew Henre as MeMe, would find her knowledge helpful in making Easter outfits for her great-grandchildren, Liam, Holden, Zayn, and Emma. Henre never shied away from her thoughts and will be remembered as a "bootstrap mama." Excuses weren't in her vocabulary. This type of attitude contributed to her resilience as a two-time cancer survivor who experienced more of real life and loss than most. Without a doubt, her strongest quality was her fortitude. She believed in God Almighty and would call on Jesus. Her daughter, Phoebe, can still hear her saying, "Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!" Henre knew where her help and strength came from and is now in the presence of her Jesus whom she often cried out to. Having buried a husband and three children, Henre's unimaginable sorrows have now been turned to joy. Mrs. Mills is survived by her sons, Archie Marlin Mills, Jr. (Dawn) and Jonathan Mills both of Pageland, SC; daughter, Phoebe Mayberry (Leon) of Indian Trail, NC; sisters, Betty Williams, Wanda Suit, Delane Parker, Dian Threatt, Marlyn Morton (Jim) and Hilda Keeney (Sam); brother, Randall Threatt; grandchildren, Brittany Reeves (Will), Kadie Plyler, Maleah Mills, Marlin Mills, III, Cooper Mills, Taylor Mills (Sapan), Elizabeth Mills, Scott Mayberry, Garrett Mayberry and Santana Mills; great grandchildren, Liam Reeves, Holden Reeves, Emma Reeves, Zayn Patel and Owen Sistare. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Baumgartner Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland Mausoleum with Rev. Michael Madaris officiating.
