James Berley
Leopard
Mar 7, 1935 — Oct 31, 2025
James Berley Leopard, 90, of Pageland, SC passed away on October 31, 2025 in Monroe, NC. James was born on March 7, 1935 in Newberry, SC to the late Harold Leopard and Ruby Melton Leopard.
James shared his childhood with his siblings, Dianne Cantrell and the late Walter "Bo" Leopard, creating memories that would last a lifetime. After the passing of his beloved wife, Julia "Judy" Shealy Leopard, James continued to embody the strength and love that had always been the foundation of their marriage.
A true family man, James's legacy is carried on by his adoring daughters, Angie Davis (Tony) of Pageland, SC, and Amy Hurst (Tyler) of Pageland, SC. His wisdom and spirit will forever be cherished by his sister, Dianne Cantrell of Greenville, SC. James's joy was multiplied by his grandson, Dillon Neisler (Jessica) of Council, NC, and his granddaughters, Annabelle Mills of Pageland, SC and Stephanie Black (Chris) of Grover, NC. His nine great-grandchildren will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather's adventures and kindness.
James served his country in the US Army National Guard and was a member and Past Master of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #58 in Pageland, SC. James was a Band Director at Pageland High School from 1962-1978 and at Buford High School from 1978-1987. James's passion for life was evident in his love for the outdoors. He was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, finding solace and excitement in the natural world. His love for sports was unparalleled, with a particular fondness for football, where he loyally supported the Clemson Tigers, the Carolina Panthers, and the Central Eagles. NASCAR races were also a source of thrill and entertainment for James, who never missed a chance to enjoy the high-speed action.
Westerns held a special place in James's heart, with classics like "Gunsmoke" and "Tombstone" being among his favorite ways to unwind. His love for these tales of courage and frontier justice reflected his own principled nature.
James's final years were comforted by the dedicated care of Beth Terry and Christine Hargett of Pageland, SC, who provided him with companionship and support, ensuring his days were filled with warmth and dignity.
