Jerry Osgood Melton, 81, of Jefferson, SC passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on October 12, 1938 in Jefferson to the late Joel Osgood Melton and Velma Horton Melton. He is preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Morrison; step-son, Shane Kearns; granddaughter, Carrie Melton and significant other, Kathy Kearns. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and previous post commander of the American Legion. He also served 3 years in the U.S. Navy. Jerry enjoyed spending time outdoors; in his spare time, he could be found water skiing, fishing in his personal pond, wood working, and riding motorcycles. Jerry is survived by the mother of his children and friend, Gloria Sullivan Melton of Hartsville, SC; sons, Lane Melton (Myra) of McBee, SC and Lee Melton (Christina) of Irmo, SC; step-son, Derrick Kearns (Diane) of Fredericksburg, VA; daughter -in- law, Marsha Kearns of Jefferson, SC; grandchildren, Diana Melton Martin (Michael), Clifton Melton (Dessiree), Samantha Melton Tomberlin (Garrett), Kade Kearns, Cale Nicholson, and Kaitlyn Nicholso; great grandchildren, Jace and Josie Martin, and Maverick Melton; sister, Betty Jo Knight (Carl) of Jefferson, SC; nieces, Kelly King and Beth Carroll and nephews, Glenn and James Knight. There will be a Celebration of Life Graveside Service at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, in Jefferson, SC with Reverend David Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
