JoAnne Smith, 87, of Pageland, SC passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Mrs. Smith was born on May 31, 1938, in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Bunyan Rape and Edna Campbell Rape. Jo Anne dedicated many years of service to Culp Weaving, where she was known for her friendly demeanor and strong work ethic. In her younger days, she was an avid softball player, bringing joy and competitiveness to the field. Jo Anne's love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for fishing, a hobby that provided her with both relaxation and excitement. She was also a skilled gardener, cultivating both flowers and vegetables with a green thumb that was the envy of her neighbors. A master of canning, Jo Anne preserved the bounty of her garden, sharing her delicious creations with friends and family. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome, where the aromas of her cooking could lift spirits and bring smiles. Jo Anne was a woman of deep faith, living her life as a shining example of kindness and compassion. Her friendly nature made her a beloved figure in her community, and her presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Jo Anne was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Olin Lee Smith, her brothers, Bunk Rape and Billy Rape, and her sister, Mary Louise McVory.
Jo Anne is survived by her loving son, Jimmy Plyler (Margie) of Pageland, SC, her daughter, Daphne Sloan (Sherman), also of Pageland, SC, her adored granddaughters, Candy Seaverns of Texas and Holly Deese of Pageland, SC, and her dear niece, Pat Busse of Monroe, NC.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday June 27, 2024 at Dudley Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 27, 2024 at Dudley Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Haney to officiate. The burial will follow at Beulah Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Monroe, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dudley Baptist Church, C/O Whitney Brock, 326 Jenkins Road, Pageland, SC 29728.
