Obituary

On Sunday, April 28, 2024, Jonathan "Jon" Henry Mills traded this earthly world for his eternal home. What a sweet reunion is being had among his family who were there waiting for him.

Jon was born August 2, 1969, into a large family that continued to grow. He always displayed a timid and shy demeanor. The quietest of six children, he preferred to avoid crowds and attention but was perceptive and he never changed. As a child, it wasn't odd to find Jon reading his Bible. He enjoyed school and was highly regarded by his teachers. As a teenager, he learned the Mills family trade and became quite skilled as a heavy equipment operator, watching and modeling the best- his father, the late Marlin Mills. He was also self-taught in countless trades, attesting to his gifted mind and desire to learn.

Jon had a dry sense of humor and could always make those around him laugh. He was so funny without trying to be. As he reminisced and told stories, the corners of his mouth rose to his cheeks revealing his signature grin. In his free time Jon enjoyed fishing; he and his daughter had a tradition of kissing the fish before throwing it back. He also had a love for old TV shows such as M.A.S.H., Andy Griffith, and Westerns of all kinds.

Those who were fortunate to be around Jon were familiar with his cooking expertise. His daughter will remember him for his homemade spaghetti, always seasoned to perfection. Jon could pan fry the best steak, just like his Daddy. He did not like to ask for help, just like his Mother, and was truly humble. Having the trademark of a genuine person, Jon was known as someone who was always willing to help others, and did.

Jon's family recognizes that God ordained time before his passing. His sister loved to visit with him and recently asked him about eternity. Jon replied to her without hesitation that he knew Who he believed in.

He was beloved "PawPaw" to his Jonathan Zayn and Koen and whenever they saw him, they would go right to him and crawl in his lap. He delighted in his grandchildren and the person he loved the most in the world, his daughter, Taylor. Their unique bond is forever cherished. Jon adored his family including his nieces, nephews, and the "greats." They are left here on earth to retell Jon's stories and pass down his best attributes: love, laughter, intelligence, and a great work-ethic. Although many knew Jon, few were fortunate to always see the very best side of him that his family loved most.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Archie Marlin Mills, Sr. and Henretta Threatt Mills, brothers, Darron Scott Mills and Kevin Burke Mills, and sister, Yana Mills Plyler.

Jon is survived by his daughters, Taylor Mackenzie Mills (Sapan) of Pageland, SC, and Lauren Elizabeth Mills of Lancaster, SC, brother, Archie Marlin Mills, Jr. (Dawn) of Pageland, SC, sister, Phoebe Mayberry (Leon) of Indian Trail, NC, grandchildren, Zayn Patel and Koen Patel, nieces and nephews, Brittany Reeves (Will), Kadie Plyler, Maleah Mills, Marlin Mills III, Cooper Mills, Scott Mayberry, Garrett Mayberry, and Santana Mills, and great nieces and nephews, Liam Reeves, Holden Reeves, and Emma Reeves.
