Obituary

Mr. Lovia Laney Johns, 78, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away at his home on Sunday, October 23, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Johns was born on February 9, 1944, in Chesterfield County SC to the late William Lovia Johns and Betty Hendrix Johns. Mr. Johns spent many years as an employee of Sutton Funeral Home in Pageland. He later studied HVAC, and eventually opened his own business, Johns Heating and Air Conditioning, which continues today under the management of his son. Mr. Johns was a lover of all sports. He was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks. He attended games as long as he was able. He especially enjoyed golf, and had served as a mentor for his son and grandson. He enjoyed working with young people. He assisted in coaching Dixie Youth Baseball and Junior Golf. He was instrumental in securing the donation of property for Pigg Park, Pageland's earlier baseball park. He also enjoyed trips to the coast with his family. Mr. Johns was a member of White Plains Country Club, a mason, and former president of the Pageland Jaycees, and a member of the South Carolina National Guard. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pageland, where he had served on the building and grounds committee. He especially enjoyed the Friendship Sunday School Class. Traveling was another passion of Mr. Johns. He and his wife had wonderful memories of their travels all over with their associates at Yandle Witherspoon Supply. They cherished the memories of the places they traveled, and the lifetime friends they made during their twenty-five-year relationship. Mr. Johns had tremendous love for his family and friends. He never met a stranger, and was always willing to help others when needed. Mr. Johns is survived by his wife, of fifty-four years, Phyllis Griggs Johns; children, John Folckemer (Susan) of Holly Springs, NC, Alison Johns Baker of Indian Trail, NC, and Bradley Griggs Johns (Mary Florence) of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Melissa Spencer (Mike), Noah Bradley Johns and Andrew William Baker; sister, Wanda Davis (James) of Myrtle Beach, SC; special uncle, Danny Hendrix (Elaine) of Pageland, SC; in-laws, Carolyn Griggs Agerton and Dr. Billy C. Blakeney, both of Pageland, SC; as well as many special nieces, and nephews. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland with Dr. Joel Dale officiating. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Pageland, PO Box 126, Pageland, SC, or Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte, PO Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247.
