Obituary

Margie Funderburk Cato-Sears, 91, of Pageland, SC, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 30, 1933, in Pageland, South Carolina, raised by the late Jim Starnes and Lula Mae Funderburk. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ferris Cato; son, Nelson Cato; brother, Coble Funderburk; sister of the heart, Leona Starnes; sister-in-law, Louise Funderburk; nephew, Randy Funderburk and father and mother-in-law, Robert and Allie Cato.

Margie was voted Most Intellectual in her high school class of 1951, a precursor to the wisdom she would share throughout her life. Margie's love for the Lord was evident in her lifelong devotion to High Point Baptist Church. A perfect Southern Lady, Margie carried herself with a humility that belied her impeccable sense of style. She possessed an extraordinary talent as an excellent seamstress, often fashioning her own elegant attire. Margie's hands were rarely still, for she found joy in the simple pleasures of working, whether it was in her flourishing garden or among the blueberry bushes she so loved. Her green thumb brought beauty to the world, just as her presence did to those around her. Those who knew Margie will remember her as the embodiment of love and kindness. Her faith-filled life was a guiding star both for her family and friends.

Mrs. Cato-Sears is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Sears; daughter, Barbara Knight (Paul); daughter and son-in-law, Sherri Cleveringa (Michael); sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Sears (Michelle), Judson Sears (Jennifer) and daughter-in-law, Sherri Cato; sister-in-law, Margaret Watts; brother-in-law, Pete Cato; grandchildren, Ferris Garth Knight, Garrett Paul Knight (Kathy), Lauren Lancaster (Kevin), Michelle Cato-Stolpen (Hamilton), Sarah Sears, Anna Sears, Elizabeth Sears, Angelo Sears, Nunzio Sears, Whitney Borreson (Anthony), Ashley Cleveringa and Brett Cleveringa; niece, Theresa Horton (Gary); niece-in-law, Sarah Funderburk and seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
