Obituary

Marlowe Darrell "Flash" Funderburk, 74, of Pageland, SC passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 26, 1950 in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Darrell James Funderburk and Marion Jean Starnes Funderburk.

Marlowe's journey began as a young boy in Monroe, where his spirited nature earned him the nickname "Flash." He married the love of his life of 37 years, Anne Eubanks Funderburk. Together, they built a life in Pageland, South Carolina.

A dedicated family man, Marlowe was a father to four sons, Brian Hicks (Karis) and Dustin Funderburk (Christina) both of Pageland, SC, Cory Funderburk (Amanda) of Marshville, NC and predeceased son, Kendal Lee Funderburk. He embraced fatherhood with open arms, taking Brian in at the tender age of 10 and raising him as his own. Marlowe was a pillar of strength for his family, especially during difficult times, such as when his son Dustin faced illness and nurtured him back to health.

Marlowe's sister, Debbie Spurlin (Donald Davis) of Peachland, NC, shared in the joys and sorrows of life with him. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Landon Hicks, Lawson Hicks, Cameron Funderburk, Carson Funderburk, Corbin Poplin, Zayden Funderburk, and Declan Funderburk. He also loved his dogs, Coco, Marley and Bull.

Professionally, Marlowe dedicated 41 years to ConMet, where his hard work and commitment were well recognized. His work ethic and loyalty to the company were mirrored in his involvement with Liberty Hill Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member.

Marlowe's interests were as lively as his personality. He had a passion for drag racing, a hobby that he not only enjoyed himself but also passed down to his boys and grandsons. Marlowe was also an avid hunter and fisherman, finding peace and pleasure in the great outdoors.

In his younger days, Marlowe was known for his wild spirit, but as life unfolded, he settled into a role that suited him just as well: a rock for his family, especially for his beloved wife, Anne. Through every challenge, including the heartbreaking loss of their son, Marlowe remained Anne's steadfast partner and confidant.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall in Pageland, SC.
