Ms. Mavis Louise McManus Strawn, 94, of Pageland, SC passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2017, at Carrington Place Nursing Home, Matthews, NC. She was born on March 23, 1923, in Pageland, SC, to the late Samuel "Stoy" McManus and Florence Griffin McManus. Mavis is preceded in death by her sisters, Georgia, Alene Deese and Edna, her brothers, Hazel, Leo, Ted, Hal and Stoy Jr. and her special granddaughter-in-law, Erin Mason. Mavis was very proud to have worked for years as a nurse's aide in a nursing home, and she knew that it takes someone special to work as a nursing home aide. The family wants to thank the Carrington Place Nursing Home staff for taking such wonderful care of Mavis and to let the staff know that it is truly an honor to know such caring people. Life is made up of little memories, mostly about those we love. In a world of remarkable expectations, Mavis was remarkable for being herself, a good hearted person with loving ways, a kind heart, and an infectious laugh and sense of humor. She was the most special Mama to her daughter and MawMaw to her grandson and great grandchildren. She is survived by her "baby" daughter, Annette Mason, her treasured son-in-law, David Mason of Charlotte, NC, her beloved grandson, David Tate Mason, Jr. and great grandchildren, Tate Mason and Betsy Mason all of San Francisco, CA, her special "son"/nephew, Mickey Deese of Matthews, NC, her cherished niece, Judy (Dan) Canup of Tampa, FL, her much loved sister-in-law, Lois McManus of Pageland, SC and her children, her adored great niece, Jeri Canup of Tampa, FL and great nephews, Pastor Joey Deese of Rock Hill, SC and Craig Canup of Fort Myers, FL, plus other loved great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Dudley Baptist Church Cemetery.
