SGM US Army (RET) Johnny J. Mills, 90, of Pageland, SC passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 under the loving care of Hospice and his family. Mr. Mills was born on April 19, 1923 in Pageland, SC, the son of the late Roosevelt and Octavia M. Mills. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Mr. Mills was an active member of First Baptist Church. He was a life member of the VFW, American Legion and Disabled Veterans. During his 30 years of service in the US Army, he earned the following honors and awards, a Good Conduct Medal (7th Awards), United Nation Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, w/3 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 1960 Device, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal w/OLC, Army Commendation Medal (3d OLC), Bronze Star Medal (1st OLC), Nine Service Stripes, Korea Service Medal w/1 Silver Star & 1 Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge. Mr. Johnny Junior Mills is survived by his wife, Verla Allen Mills of Pageland, SC; children, Debora Mills Graves (Thomas) of Central, SC; John Robert Mills (Sandra) of Monroe, NC and Donna Mills Steen (Danny) of Pageland, SC; five grandchildren, Lesslie Graves Pekarek (Jeff), Jessica Graves Rivera (Mark), John Garrett Mills, Thomas Allen Steen and Trent Daniel Steen; two great grandchildren, J.B. and Will Pekarek and one brother, Willie Mills. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday April 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Pageland. The interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Baumgartner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to a Hospice of your Choice.
