Mr. Samuel "Sammy" James Snipes, 89, of Pageland, SC, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Chesterfield General Hospital in Cheraw, SC. Mr. Samuel James Snipes was born on September 2, 1924 in Pageland, South Carolina to the late John and Blanche Snipes. Mr. Samuel James Snipes was later joined in marriage to Mamie Snipes who precedes him in death. He served in the US Navy and was member of First Presbyterian Church of Pageland. He served 49 years on the Chain Gang for High School Football and a member of the American Legion for 50 years. He is predeceased by his Son, Sambo Snipes, and his Daughter, Jan Jowers and Four Brothers, Paul Snipes, Harold Snipes, Billy Snipes and Leon Snipes and Two Sisters, Johnsie Brantley and Mary Bess. He is survived by his Brother, Claude Snipes of Longview, Texas; Sisters, Rachel Lewis of Summerville, South Carolina, Drula Chapman of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Laura Baker of Aiken, South Carolina; Son-in-law, Jimmy Jowers of Jefferson, South Carolina; Five Grandchildren and Fourteen Great Grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 9, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church of Pageland. The entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland.
