Laura Belk Arant Burch, 91, died Wednesday. She was born October 24, 1922 in the Five Forks community near Pageland, where she attended school and church. She was a daughter of the late Peter May and Lottie McManus Arant. She graduated from Pageland High School and entered Winthrop College at age 16. She completed her bachelor's degree there in 1942. She taught math at Duncan High School before beginning a 40 year career with the United States Postal Service. She was a member of Five Forks Methodist Church until it was closed, Sunday school superintendent and a member of Pageland United Methodist Church. She was the widow of William Blakeney Burch. Surviving are her sons, Warren Burch (Jane) of Conway, SC., Paul Burch (Kim) of Pageland, S.C.; six grandchildren, Lauren Burch of New York, New York; Kendall Burch Graves (Christian) of Jefferson, SC.; Leslie Burch of Rock Hill, SC; Ashley Burch Lear (Jeremy) of Jefferson, S.C.; Mike Burch of Pageland, S.C. and Joanna Burch of Columbia, SC.; one great grandson, Baylor Graves of Jefferson, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Pageland United Methodist Church from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, followed by a Christian service at 1:00 p.m. She will be buried at Five Forks Cemetery.
