Obituary

Nelson Scott Thomas, 60, of Marshville, NC, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 17, 1964 in Monroe, North Carolina to Boyce Nelson Thomas and the late Virginia Lee Driggers Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Maria M. Thomas of 40 years of Marshville, NC; sons, Christopher Thomas (Sharonda) of Pageland, SC and Steven Thomas (Jalicia) of Marshville, NC. His role as a grandfather to Zyshonne Dunlap, Hailey Thomas, and Christopher Thomas was one he cherished deeply. Though he was predeceased by his mother, Virginia Thomas, and mother-in-love, Frankie Mills, Nelson's legacy continues through his family, including many other relatives.

Nelson was a long-standing member of Bethel Baptist Church in Marshville. Throughout his life, Nelson was known for his diverse interests and talents. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in the tranquility of hunting and fishing. His love for cooking was only matched by the joy he took in sharing meals with family and friends. Nelson possessed a creative spirit, often found building things with his own hands. His playful nature was evident in his love for games like horseshoes and corn hole. Even the simple task of mowing grass became a cherished activity. Nelson's role as a role model extended beyond his family to his friends and community.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church in Marshville, NC with Pastor Randy Davis officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who helped and showed love and support during this difficult time.
