Obituary

Mr. Norman Patrick Caldwell Sr., 87, of Pageland, South Carolina went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 while surrounded by his loving family. Norman was born on May 25, 1930 in Gaston County, North Carolina to the late Robert McKinley Caldwell and Carrie Horton Caldwell. He later met and united in marriage to the late Caronell Gaskins Caldwell. After serving in the United States Army, Norman served the community of Pageland for over 40 years as a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service where he loved to do special things for his patrons on his mail route. He was later elected to the Board of Directors for Sandhill Telephone Company where he made a big impact for 30 years. Norman loved his town and was proud to call Pageland home. Norman had a servant's heart, he received great joy by visiting the less fortunate. Norman was a frequent visitor to nursing homes, hospitals and those recovering at home, he made a point to take gifts to those that were bereaved. He was the type of person who had a unusual sense of humor and never met a stranger. One of Norman's biggest passions was the joy he received from giving back, he could not tell anyone "No". He was truly a Christian man who loved his Lord. Norman was a member of First Baptist Church of Pageland where he served as a former Deacon, a member of Pageland-Jefferson Lions Club where he held multiple positions as well as a member of the American Legion of Pageland where he served as past Commander. Norman was a staple in the Pageland Community and he will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege to know him. In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Norman is predeceased by a son-in-law, Billy Cato; brothers, Lenard, Clayton, Aaron and Lloyd Caldwell and one sister, Mary Rowell. Those left to celebrate and remember his life include his loving sons, Norman Patrick Caldwell Jr. (Wanda) of Wingate, North Carolina and Philip Gaskins Caldwell (Toni) of Concord, North Carolina; daughter, Melinda Caldwell Cato of Pageland, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Beth Plyler Halasz (Daniel) of Greenville, South Carolina, Clark Ashton Cato of Jefferson, South Carolina, Lauren Elizabeth Caldwell of Concord, North Carolina, Lindy Suzanne Caldwell of Concord, North Carolina and William Robert Cato III (Barbara) of Pageland, South Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Merin Halasz of Greenville, South Carolina, McKayla Cato, Xander Cato and Aliza all of Pageland, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Donnie Gaskins (Geraldine) of Chesterfield, South Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.
