Patsy S. Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on September 15, 2023, in Monroe, NC. Born on June 1, 1945, in Wadesboro, NC, to the late Dee Vernial Smith and Lydia Hammond Smith. Mrs. Smith is predeceased by her brothers, D. V. Smith Jr. and Eugene Hammond Smith; sisters, Magdalene Smith McCollum and Vivian Smith Flake as well as her brothers-in-law Milford McCollum, Joseph Winfield and Jack Flake.
Patsy was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an excellent cook, making delicious meals for her family and friends. She loved sewing. Patsy was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Pageland and a member of the choir. She kept a beautiful garden and grew the best tomatoes her family ever tasted.
Patsy was married to Leon Smith, for fifty-nine years. Together, they raised two children, Mark Bradley Smith and Tara Elizabeth Smith Rummage. Patsy instilled strong family values in her children. She loved to eat ice cream with her grandson, Samuel Garrett Rummage and play with his late Chihuahua, Jack. Samuel now grown has a daughter, Evan who Patsy was not able to know.
Patsy shared a special bond with her sisters, Sarah Smith Horne (Charles) and Annie Lee Smith Winfield. She cherished every moment spent with them. Patsy was an encourager to many. Her personality was infectious and she was a friend to all.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 18, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Pageland with Dr. Joel Dale and Dr. Leon Smith officiating.
