Ms. Rachel Sowell Carraway, 86, of Pageland, SC passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at her home in the care of her loving family. Rachel Carraway was born in Pageland, SC, to Jessie and Henry Berry Sowell of Pageland. She was the youngest of 12 children. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband, J.W. "Bill" Carraway of 58 years, who passed away on July 27, 2010. She is also predeceased by her loving sister, Leo S. Sexton, of Pageland, SC, who she lived with for many years, and 10 additional brothers and sisters. Rachel was retired from Chesco of Pageland and was an avid lover of animals and nature. Ms. Carraway is survived by her daughter, June A. Carraway and husband Garry G. Washburn of Charlotte, NC; her son, John W. Carraway II of Charlotte, NC; and her sister, Pearl Arant of Pageland, SC. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and her dear friend Deborah Taylor. A Graveside Service will be held at 4PM at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pageland, SC on Sunday, September 23, 2012. The family will receive friends at Sutton-Baumgartner Funeral Home in Pageland, SC at 3PM prior to the Graveside Service.
