Mrs. Shelva Jean Catoe Hunter, 83, of Jefferson, SC passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Hunter was born on August 22, 1937 in Jefferson, South Carolina to the late William Adolphus Catoe and Allie Rollings Catoe. She later met and united in marriage to the late Johnny Everett Hunter. When Shelva was younger, she loved to ride motorcycle. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was also the youth and adult choir director. Shelva managed the Jefferson Turkey Farm for 33 years. She loved to cook and sew. Besides enjoying cooking cakes, she was a wonderful gardener and would supply lots of people with vegetables. Shelva will be truly missed by many. She was preceded in death by her brother, Broadus Rollins. Mrs. Hunter is survived by her sisters, Peggy Gainey (Tom) of Ridgeway, SC and Lynda Gibson of Reno, NV; nieces, Marcella Lloyd of Florence, SC and Kelley Watson of Ridgeway, SC; nephews, Jeffrey Boatwright of Columbia, SC and Darien Gibson of Reno, NV and numerous other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church. There will be a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Thurman Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, C/O Elizabeth Sullivan, 504 E. Elizabeth St., Jefferson, SC 29718.
