Thomas Dean Grant - Jefferson, SC
Thomas Dean Grant, often referred to as "Tom Terrific," passed away August 25, 2023, surrounded by family after a battle with service-related cancer. His family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Baumgartner Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Jefferson Church of God with Pastor David Grubbs officiating. The burial will follow at Jefferson Town Cemetery with Military Honors.
Tommy was born August 17, 1946, in Monroe, NC, to the late Leroy and Mildred Simpson Grant. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Janice Rollings Grant; son, Jeffery Dean Grant (Melanie); daughters, Audra Grant Coble and Janisyn Grant McLaurin (Steve Cherok); granddaughters, Anistyn Grant, Ainsley Grant, Grant Coble and Miloree McLaurin; grandsons, John Coble, Gavin Grant, Charlie McLaurin and Thomas McLaurin; many nieces and nephews; brother, David Grant (Lynda); sisters, Debbie Funderburk (Ronnie) and Rhonda Dew (Johnny); brother-in-law, Jerry Zellmer and sister-in-law, Eugenia Grant. Tommy is preceded in death by sister, Phyllis Grant Zellmer and brother, Stephen Grant.
Tommy grew up in Marshville, NC and later moved to Pageland, SC, where he graduated from high school as a green and gold Pageland Tiger. After high school, Tommy was drafted into the Army and served as a chaplain assistant during the Vietnam War era in Thailand. After proudly serving our country, he attended King's College in Charlotte, NC. Tommy loves to tell the story of how he won the heart of Janice, the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. The two built a life together in Jefferson, SC, where Tommy was a small business owner of Carolina Poultry of Pageland, Inc. Tommy loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved sharing his passion for the outdoors with many, especially his grandchildren. He was a gifted athlete, an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Tommy was the founding member of the Briarstompers Hunting Club and a longtime member of the Wahee Gun Club in Marion, SC, where he is legendary for his success at "riphunting." Tommy had a weekly tee time with the White Plains Country Club senior golf group. He also loved his church and community. He was a dedicated and active member of the Jefferson Church of God where he served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent. He served as a Hospice volunteer and especially loved participating in the Veteran Pinning Ceremonies. Tommy was a member of the American Legion Post #80. He served on the Chesterfield County School Board and the Chesterfield County Medical Board.
