Mrs. Vera Vaughn Gay, 101, of Pageland, South Carolina, during the most beautiful afternoon on February 20, 2024, just past the noon hour, angels came and escorted Mrs. Gay into glory. She was a resident of Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation in Lancaster, SC. Mrs. Vera was the daughter of the late William and Nezzie Tucker Vaughn. Born in Ruby, she was one of four children, all of whom are predeceased; sisters, Leona Alexander, Virginia Haithcock and brother, William Vaughn.

As a small child, Mrs. Gay would crawl into the window of the Ruby Baptist Church, and there she taught herself how to play the piano by ear. This was one of her proudest accomplishments and she enjoyed sharing this with everyone she met. She served as pianist at Center Grove Baptist Church in Mount Croghan for 27 years. In her career, she served as inspector at Sacony, Inc. and at SLS Industries. "Granny" was her favorite title, and she was known as "Nunnie" by her nieces and nephews. Her favorite times were the times she spent with her family. Before her decline in health, she would cook an entire feast for the family. Her children and grandchildren had two favorites of hers, the Thanksgiving dressing and her homemade biscuits. When going out to eat, she always enjoyed a meal at Captain D's.

She leaves behind to grieve her loss, her children, Mrs. Dianne Gay Greene (Ray), Mrs. Carolyn Gay Gwin and Miss Marilyn Gay; grandchildren, Mrs. Rhonda Greene (Dwayne), Mr. Tim Knight (Sharon) and Mrs. Deanna Autry-Belk (Charlie), as well as six great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents and siblings, she is predeceased by three sons in law; Mr. Pete Autry, Mr. Billy Knight and Mr. Wayne Price, and two great grandchildren, Courtney Ard and Erica Ard.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Baumgartner Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Baumgartner Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Nicholson and Rev. Tim Madaris officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland.
