Mr. William "Bill" Berts Courtney, 87, of Pageland, SC went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 1, 2021. Mr. William "Bill" Berts Courtney was born on September 29, 1933 in Pageland, South Carolina to the late Walter A. Courtney and Audra Rollings Courtney. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Gwendolyn Drake, grandson, Michael Conant and brother, Emory Courtney. Mr. William Courtney was a dedicated member of High Point Baptist Church where until he became disabled he was a Sunday School teacher, and he also worked diligently with the building and grounds committee. He served his country for over 33 years in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969. After his military career he owned his own business for many years as an expert craftsman repairing and refinishing furniture. Mr. Courtney loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also loved to travel. Mr. Courtney is survived by his devoted wife, of 42 years, Mildred A. Courtney of Pageland, SC, son, William Robert Courtney (Jessica) of Pageland, SC, daughter, Susan Ann Courtney of Columbia, SC, brothers, Cliff Courtney (Joyce) and Eddie Courtney of Pageland, SC, sister, Judy Rogers (John) of Pageland, SC; special sister-in-law Rhonda Courtney (George Katchue) of Pageland, SC, special niece, Susan Dixon, of McBee, SC, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Baumgartner Funeral Home. Anyone can come by Baumgartner Funeral Home on Tuesday January 5, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM to sign the register book and pay their respects. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 3:00 PM at High Point Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Pegram officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Due to the government-mandated, COVID-19 restrictions, we ask that you practice social distancing at all times. The family would like for all attending the service to please wear a face covering and refrain from any personal contact at all times.
