Mr. Winfred "Lee" Bess Jr., 76, of Pageland, SC passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at his daughter's home in Purlear, NC surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Bess was born on March 29, 1946 in Monroe, NC to the late Winfred Lee Bess Sr. and Mary Louise Langley Bess. He was a retired truck driver and attended Center Grove Baptist Church in Pageland, SC. Mr. Bess served in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion Smith-Graves Post 92. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his horses. During his spare time, he enjoyed all kinds of racing and fishing. He is predeceased by his brother, Brian Thomas Bess. Mr. Bess is survived by his wife of 8 years, Margie Bess of Pageland, SC; son; Brandon Bess of Wilkesboro, NC; daughters, Ashley Johnston (Mitchell) of Purlear, NC, Brandy Jordan (Chris) and Nicole Gibson (Tim) both of Pageland, SC and Terri Wilson (Steve) of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Michael Bess of Pageland, SC; sister, Patty Funderburk (Ray) of Pageland, SC, grandchildren, Evan Wilson, Ariel Jordan, Allie Jordan, Sarah Johnston, Cadence Johnston, Mason Johnston, Emerson Gibson, James Gibson, Harper Bess and Hattie Bess and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Baumgartner Funeral Home, 708 West McGregor Street, Pageland, SC. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Center Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Croghan, SC with Pastor Johnny Sims and Rev. Mitchell Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland, Pageland, SC.
